Tbilisi architecture biennial

Tbilisi, Georgia

19.10.20

“Metaform” workshop aimed to rediscover the encoded intelligence in Georgian architecture and to rethink the knowledge accumulated over the ages. The workshop focused on the city of Tbilisi as a cultural field covered by architectural artefacts that are materialized from continuous fusion with European, Asian and Soviet architecture. The essence and structure of those artefacts are currently forgotten and waiting to be rediscovered.

Through the methodology of formal analysis, several architectural monuments were sought to be analyzed in terms of context and history, as well as architectural characteristics. Using this method of formal reading various analytic drawings, schemes and diagrams will be created, allowing revising encoded information and establishing new knowledge in the discipline.

Metaform developed a new architectural vocabulary, offering a possibility to rediscover intellectual instruments and methods of articulation, which had been used by architects of previous epochs (generations). Consequently, it was possible to learn from the indexes and signs of the past and encourage the formation of the shared professional intellect to be able to answer the question of what we have in common on the cultural field, on a local and global scale.
