OUT - HABIT is a dialogue between architects and the true inhabitants of public space: homeless people. The intention is to welcome within the field of architecture and urban planning an experience which is normally never considered and throughout this process, reframe our view on what public space is. Homeless people are the only ones able to navigate and use public space, in the true meaning of the word. Their ability to survive within the frames of this area relies strongly on their exceptional knowledge of its processes, topographies, and qualities we are not aware of. The public space they inhabit doesn’t force them to shop or spend money, it is not only infrastructure and most importantly, it can become a home.
The event was a virtual guided tour of Prague, provided by Pragulic and Chybik + Kristof architects. Together with our virtually connected audience, we visited areas of the city that are normally disregarded, revealing layers of their undocumented recent history.
