O-SI™ (Immediate Health Bus) live transformation. From forgotten urban-bus to new and permanent healthcare infrastructure.
The project foresees the re-use of up to 4,800 urban vehicles recently decommissioned from São Paulos’s bus fleet, and the adaptation of its internal spaces for clinical use with focus on telemedicine, allowing a bigger flexibility and lower operational and implementation costs. During the design process the project team identified that one of the indirect effects resulting from the pandemic is the decrease in the use of hospitals due to fear of contagion by Covid-19, which causes numerous other health issues not directly related to the virus. Therefore, the architectural concept was a direct response to this scenario.
The O-SI™ (Immediate Health Bus) platform will be a mobile health equipment, modular and accessible, of fast implementation and wide reach. Its concept emerged from a multidisciplinary collaboration between architectural designers and doctors, in order to design a solution that will not only actively combat the Covid-19 pandemic but also expand healthcare access for people who need it most, while providing an inclusive and biologically safe environment for diagnosis, treatment and vaccination.
